Choose your shape

• Circle — the most-used floor decal shape. Reads as a marker or a spot to stand on, and has no corners to catch and peel.
• Square — clean and grid-friendly. Good for a repeated pattern down an aisle or a queue line.
• Rectangle — for directional arrows, longer messages and lane markings where the text needs horizontal room.
• Custom — cut to the outline of your logo, an arrow, a footprint or any shape you supply. The strongest visual impact, and the one people photograph.

What floor graphics are for

Floors are underused advertising space precisely because people look at them while walking. A decal on the floor competes with nothing, which is why retention rates for floor graphics tend to beat shelf-level signage.

Applying decals that stay down

The floor must be clean, dry and fully cured — sealed concrete, vinyl, tile, terrazzo and sealed wood all work. Sweep, mop with plain water, and let the floor dry completely; floor cleaners leave a residue that will stop the adhesive gripping. Apply from the center outward with firm pressure across the whole surface, paying particular attention to the edges.

Avoid unsealed concrete, carpet, and freshly waxed or polished floors. After application, wait 24 hours before wet cleaning, then clean with a damp mop rather than a scrubber or a pressure washer.

Designing for a floor

People read a floor decal from directly above at a walking pace, so keep the message to a few words and a symbol. Use high-contrast colors that stand out from your floor rather than blending into it, and remember arrows are read faster than any word. Build files at 150 DPI at final size in CMYK with 0.125" bleed, and keep content 0.5" inside the cut edge.
